Our
motto "Horses
Give Us Wings", comes from a verse in the Bible.
It is found in Isaiah 40:31 For those that wait
upon the Lord, shall renew their strength. They shall mount
up with wings as eagles.
They shall run and not grow weary. They shall walk
and not grow faint.

In
2002, Sheri Holmes founded Flying Free. Mrs. Holmes worked as a therapeutic riding
instructor at Hope Therapy in Galveston. She has taught
students and trained horses for twenty five years. When
becoming aware of the demise of Hope Therapy, Mrs. Holmes realized the
huge gap this left in our community.
Hoping to help fill in that gap, she began to pursue founding a therapeutic riding center.
It took two years to open the doors.
The
pilot program started in May of 2003 with four students.

The
facility is located on approximately six acres in Galveston
County, Texas. Flying Free is able to serve anyone in and around
the Houston Area. The facility
consists of a covered riding arena, a large barn with a heated
wash area for the horses, the main office with restrooms, an
air-conditioned lounge area (being remodeled), mounting ramps, a
gazebo and a waiting area for parents.
Flying Free is open Tuesday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to
5 p.m.. Flying Free accepts all
physical, cognitive, emotional, and medical disabilities unless
equine assisted therapy is contraindicated by medical personnel
or the instructor feels we are unable to help someone meet their
goals.
